Daffodil March Birth Flower
Traditionally, the daffodil is either yellow, white, or a combination. There are newer varieties that now include pink and orange. A classic daffodil is made up of six petals and a trumpet. It looks like a bell-shaped crown that is frilled at the edge. They are best known to have a single bloom per stem. There are thousands of registered cultivars of daffodils.
The Latin name for daffodils is Narcissus, the plant’s genus. It is one of the first flowers that bloom in spring, representing rebirth and a new beginning. It also represents inspiration, forgiveness, and creativity.
This perennial is hardy and easy to grow and comes back every year. Plant it in the fall before the first frost- you will get daffodils in the spring. After the flower blooms and dies sometime in the spring, remove all faded flowers to let the foliage remain and send all the energy to rebuild the bulb for the following year. Because they are heat sensitive, don't expect them to grow here in the desert after spring; they do not like the hot climates. As a beginner gardener, I have yet to experience growing these beautiful perennials. This next year, I will press my luck! Just look at those beautiful flowers.
