International Women’s Day is a time for recognizing and bringing out awareness of the many struggles women have overcome throughout history and in life. We have come a long way from the right to vote to now have the first Woman Vice President in office. This is the perfect time to honor female leaders, innovators, social influencers, entrepreneurs and to appreciate the women in our own lives. No matter what point in life you are in, you were guided in some capacity or another by mentors who inspired you everyday. For example your Mother's strong perseverance, your Aunt’s amazing heart, or your Grandmother faith are just a few. As your world expands beyond the walls of your family and home and you venture out into the world, you are likely also to be influenced by your teacher who pushed your intellectual creativity. Your mentor who believes that your goals can be attained no matter how big or small they are. And to show appreciation for all the life experiences, wisdom and love these female leaders have passed on to you over the years, give them a gift that reflects all they’ve done to shape your personality and guide you. Gifts like candles, cards, dinner and flowers are just a few things we can give in return. Give thanks to the women in your life that have inspired and helped shape the person you are today.
We cannot forget our sisters, who may be one of the most important relationships we have in our lives. Our siblings are our first friends, and the bond you share is as strong because of how you spent all those years together sharing everything. A great gift idea is a beautiful potted plant to symbolize the growth you had together. A mix flowers in a vase with a gift certificate to their favorite shopping place or spa. Although I must admit coworkers share similar relationships, perhaps a little less personal. A beautiful gift like a small plant or succulent for their window or desk or home would be more appropriate.
Finally let’s not forget the next generation of strong women, our beautiful daughters! They’re also a future of our society. It is very important to instill a sense of pride and self worth in their identities and accomplishments early on. Inspire them with a gift of books by female authors. You could also give your daughter a journal to write down her thoughts, ideas and dreams. Don’t forget even lunch and a meaningful conversation goes a long way.
Overall the most important way you can show your support and appreciation of the women in your life is to value and respect them everyday.
